OUR FIRST WORKSHOP
Equine Emergencies for the Horse owner
Part 1: Colic, Fever, Eye emergencies and medications
hat is colic? Why do horses get colic? What causes colic? What do I do if my horse gets colic? What does it look like if my horse has a eye emergency and what do I do? Why does my horse has a fever? These are just some of the questions we will delve into during this one day educational event.
Spend a day learning in a fun and interactive environment all about some common ailments that our furry pets can be affected with. The aim is to empower you with the knowledge so that if something does happen to your horse you will have the knowledge behind you to know what to do. The day will be divided into a tutorial in the morning and a hands on practical session in the afternoon. Book now as places are limited to the first 20 registrations.
Part 2: Wounds and lacerations, fractures, laminitis, bandages/ dressings and splints
Naturally being a flight or fight creature, horses are prone to injuries. Knowing when you can treat a wound at home and when you need to seek veterinary advice can be life saving. Some of the topics covered in our future Workshops will include:
- Detailed anatomy of the horse
- the importance of joints/ tendon sheaths and bursa
- Problems of wound healing in the horse
- Topicals: do they work?
- When and when not to bandage
In the afternoon we will have a hands on demonstration and practical of how to apply a proper distal limb bandage and explore the pros and cons of the available wounds dressing and bandage material available with samples available to all our attendees.
